Impedance Audiometry is a diagnostic test that evaluates the function of the middle ear. It measures how the eardrum and middle ear structures respond to sound and pressure changes, helping to detect ear infections, fluid buildup, eustachian tube dysfunction, and other middle ear conditions.

How Does Impedance Audiometry Work?

A small probe is placed in the ear canal, and a gentle air pressure change is introduced. The test measures how the eardrum moves in response to this pressure and records the results on a tympanogram. Additionally, acoustic reflex testing assesses the involuntary muscle contractions in response to loud sounds, providing insight into auditory nerve function.
